Despite seeing no Aurora Borealis during my trip to Lofoten last year, I have not lost hope. Part of what makes the northern lights so spectacular is how elusive and unpredictable they are, as well as getting clear night skies. I travelled to Rovaniemi for a week to stay with my friend Matias, and ended up going to Kilpisjärvi on the Norwegian and Swedish border for a week to try my luck with the Northern Lights once more - the weather forecast did not look good, and in-between getting adjusted to freezing temperatures and almost no daylight, it did not look good.
So glad that I did not give up however, because I ended up having 3 nights of Arctic light, including the craziest display I have ever witnessed - all pictures are from Rovaniemi and Kilpisjärvi, and as you can see the Finnish Fjell does not offer a lot of photographic opportunities, so you have to take the ones you are given - heavily featured is the iconic mountain of Kilpisjärvi Saana.
